Box Office Results: 8/29/12-9/2/12

During the final week of summer, the box office numbers continued to drop though two of the three newcomers performed solidly enough. The last newcomer, on the other hand, made history in the wrong way. The Sam Raimi produced 'The Possession' won out the weekend with $17.7 million while the all-star cast of 'Lawless' finished in second with 9.7 million. The rest of the Top 10 consisted of holdovers. However, the biggest news of the week came with the kid-oriented flick 'Oogieloves' which ended up having the worst weekend of a film that was screened in at least 2,000 theaters. The final total was only $445,000, on an average of only $206 per theater. On a more positive note, 'The Dark Knight Rises' officially grossed $1 billion this weekend, and is now at a total higher than 'The Dark Knight', which crossed the billion mark during a 2009 re-release.
